May 29th - June 2nd, 2006 Korea |
The International Class third year students made their class trip to Korea. They had a five-day stay and toured from Busan to Gyeongju to Seoul. The students were able to experience both the turbulent history and rich culture of Korea by seeing ancient wonders such as the Buddha statue at Seokguram Grotto, by being moved by the struggle for freedom at the Korea National Independence Hall, and by experiencing the culture at the Korean Folk Village. The highlight of the trip was a one-day exchange visit at Haesong Girls' School in Seoul. The students had fabulous day, each students was assigned a student from Haesong, the students had lunch together in the cafeteria, toured the school together, and then IC students made a presentation about Japanese culture. Many thanks to the faculty and students of Haesong middle school for their warm and generous welcome.
The trip was highlight of the year and a memorable event.

April, 2006 Welcome party all 3 grades |
This year, the second and third year IC students welcomed the new first
year students. The students organized their own welcome party, each class
performed a song and there were some games. The students mixed well, forming
groups made up of all three grades. The second year students then introduced
themselves to their 'little sisters' by passing on letters of encouragement
and introduction. It was nice to see the tradition of big sisters and little
sisters in IC take off by continuing a second year.

February, 2006 Shopping for 5th graders |
The first year students took on the task of creating a shopping experience for the primary school fifth graders. The IC students divided into groups and decided what type of shop or game to prepare. One member of each group was also in charge of language for their group, they made sure each member of their group knew appropriate shopping phrases, these members also became language resources for the fifth graders on the actual day of the event.
The IC students put a tremendous amount of effort into their stores, they made all types of necklaces and trinkets for their stores and came up with fun games for the fifth graders. The fifth graders enjoyed the whole experience and IC students truly felt accomplishment of a job well done. The teachers were proud and overwhelmed by the high level of effort and work the IC students did.

February 5th, 2006 Welcome New First Years |
The first year students had a chance to feel like 'big sisters' by welcoming
the successful candidates to International Class 2006. A group of volunteer
students made an all out effort to organize a getting-to-know-you game.
It was a wonderful chance for the successful candidates to see and meet
their new classmates and to feel like part of International Class.

January 13th, 2006 A Visit from Haesong Girls' Middle School, Seoul, Korea |
Tokyo Jogakkan and International Class were pleased to welcome the first
visit from Haesong Girls' Middle School. Eleven students and two teachers
visited TJK for a day. The visitors were able to watch some classes, enjoy
a play and a dance put on by the IC students (1st and 2nd year), and lunch
with the students from IC. All the students from 1st and 2nd year classes
gathered in the school auditorium to watch a video presentation on Korea.
Then the students from both schools sang their school songs and the Korean
visitors left. The opportunity to meet will come again when IC students
go to Korea in their third year of middle school. |

October 22nd, 2005 Open School |
At the second Open School event for the year, International Class had an English demonstration lesson to give interested students and their parents a chance to see how IC's differentiated English works. The lesson saw the students divided into two groups - one group was concentrating on speaking and correct pronunciation by learning the English equivalent to Japanese loan words. The other group was working on reading and analyzing an English novel.
There were many visitors to the demonstration class and responses and interest was high. |
